In our first mission, in just two hours, we picked up 473 lollipop sticks, 631 cigarette butts and a lot of trash from a 160 foot long beach on the Mediterranean coast. After that, we created a banner titled "Lost & Found" that showed the objects we found.
The three founding members of Accivism.
The three generation founding members headed to the beach at 11:00 PM sharp, dressed in a summery commando style carrying just a hammer, some nails, lots of mosquito repellent, a phone to use as lantern, and a plastic beach chair to use as a step ladder. Soon we worried that the hammering was too loud and was bringing too much attention but fortunately nobody spotted us, and we finished our first mission without a hiccup. When we finished placing the banner on the back of a government bulleting board we took our guerrilla photo. Accivism was born.
Before and After.

¡VERY IMPORTANT!
BEFORE YOU ENTER THIS BEACH READ THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS BOARD!
LOST AND FOUND OBJECTS on this beach in just two hours. If any of these objects belong to you, please stop by the GREEN GARBAGE CONTAINER to pick them up and win an “Oink” T-Shirt.
631 cigarette butts. (We believe they don’t belong to just one person)
473 lollipop sticks. (We hope they don’t belong to just one child)
4 candle holders. (We’re sure it was a romantic night)
1 condom. (We’re sure the night had a happy ending)
1 piece of men’s underwear. (We’re sure the man went home quite fresh)
1 tuna can. (We’re sure it was delicious)
1 elephant and half of a rhinoceros (We’re sure the kids cried when they arrived home missing their favorite toys)
1 dental floss dispenser. (At least something on this beach was clean - the owner’s gums)
3 balloons and 2 birthday candles. (Happy birthday to you!)
Many plastic bottles and cups. (Maybe the owners got heat sick and couldn’t bring them to the trash can? Advice: always bring umbrellas or hats to the beach.)
Lots and lots and LOTS of trash (We believe it belongs to wild pigs)
All of this garbage! - and not including what cleaning workers remove from the beach every morning!!
IMPORTANT!
CIGARETTE BUTTS ARE NOT BIODEGRADABLE AND OFTEN PERSIST IN THE ENVIRONMENT FOR DECADES!!
When cigarette butts are thrown onto beaches and streets they regularly end up in the sea due to rain and high tide. They can’t be collected and remain for many, MANY years releasing toxins and endangering the ecosystem. 4.3 trillion cigarette butts are littered every year worldwide. So please dispose of your cigarette butts in proper containers. It makes all the difference!
PLEASE take all of your trash with you before leaving the beach. Have a great time and help keep our beautiful beach CLEAN.
THANK YOU!
